Michael Faraday, an English bookbinder untrained in mathematics, became one of the greatest experimenters in history. He developed the concept of a field to describe magnetic and electric forces, proposed that magnetism was a circular force, invented the dynamo, and discovered electromagnetic induction, among his other experimental discoveries.
